  • Does this settlement apply to individual property owners?

The Town's Agreement is specific to claims between the Town and the Nation, and does not settle claims by individual property owners in Camp Verde that may have their own water rights claims pending in the Gila River Adjudication.
  • How do you think this settlement will impact your community/economy?

The Town’s Agreement will settle water rights claims between the Town of Camp Verde and the Yavapai-Apache Nation. In addition to establishing recognized water budgets that allow for responsible growth and water usage, the Agreement outlines processes that will ensure cooperation in the development of long-term water resources between the parties. This long term approach will give more certainty to the Town’s decision making, and provide future developers with appropriate expectations as our community continues to grow.
  • What are your thoughts on the proposed water settlement?

The Town and the Yavapai-Apache Nation share the desire to see our communities grow responsibly, while ensuring that a flowing Verde River is retained as a cultural and natural resource for the Verde Valley. As the two largest local governing authorities that will impact growth and development in the Camp Verde area, it is important for the Town and the Nation to work cooperatively to ensure appropriate water resource development in the future. While the Town has much work ahead to develop future water resources, the terms of this Agreement establish a responsible and cooperative framework for doing so, and ensure the support of the Nation towards those efforts.
